About

A native English speaker who has worked in business.

I am British, I live in Paphos, and I have lived and worked in four countries. I teach English to adults, and I have spent more than twenty years working with people from different cultures.

Scott, English teacher, Cyprus

I did not begin as a teacher. I worked in business for more than twenty years, in selling, marketing, managing teams and training people, in the United Kingdom, Cyprus and many other countries. I sold globally, not only in Cyprus. I have sold to clients, and managed staff, from many different cultures.

That is where I learned the thing I now teach. Speaking a language and being understood are not the same. I have watched capable people lose a sale, a job or an argument because of how something sounded, not because of what it meant.

I now teach English full time, online and in person. My students are adults who need English for their work, for their profession, or for the country they live in. My longest student has studied with me every week for more than three years, which is the only review that really matters.

I am a qualified TEFL teacher. More importantly, I have sat on the other side of the table, in a second language, in a meeting that mattered. I know how that feels.

How I teach

I listen firstI ask what you need before I plan anything
Real situations, not exercisesThe meeting, the email or the interview that you actually have
Culture mattersHow direct to be, and how you sound to other people
Mistakes are the lessonYou will not be corrected until you stop speaking
You keep the materialYour own page after every lesson

Speak to me first.

Tell me what you need English for and roughly what your level is. I will tell you which lessons are right for you, and which are not.
